My TV has issues with ABC (which is why we watch LOST at a friend’s place on Wednesday nights) so we got no Oscar love tonight. I did see the following quote though from Sean Penn, that just made me laugh.
“You commie homo-loving sons of guns. I did not expect this, and I want it to be very clear that I do know how hard I make it to appreciate me, often, but I am touched by the appreciation.” — Sean Penn, accepting the best actor Oscar for his role in “Milk.”
He was excellent in Milk, it’s a well earned win. Heath Ledger = YAY!! He was so, so brilliant in Dark Knight (though I did think it was hilarious that Robert Downey Jr. was up against him for his role in Tropic Thunder). Didn’t see her performance but I love Kate Winslet. And Slumdog Millionaire was a lovely film and I’m glad they did so well tonight.
How was Hugh Jackman? I was looking forward to seeing him.
I thought Hugh Jackman’s opening skit was fantastic. He wanted to introduce all the top films but was told “there’s no budget for that”. So, he did it Monkey style… and you know what I mean by Monkey style. Cheap sets, props, costumes. It was awesome! The rest of the show… meh. Too much singing and dancing for me. I’d rather have seen more clips from the nominated movies.
