6 Degrees of Mary Queen of Scots

On this day, February 8, 1587, Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded.

Scarlett Johansson is slated to star in a film about Mary later this year.

But Scarlett will also play Mary Boleyn in The Other Boleyn Girl later this month. And I finally just now saw the trailer for this:

And the point of this blog post is this: Is it just me or is that story a wee bit different than the story laid out in the book? And by “wee bit” I mean “fundamentally” different.

Anyway, the film opens February 28 and I’m going to have to see it. I’m a sucker for Boleyn girls and pretty dresses.Β

  1. I am also a sucker for pretty frocks, so I will be seeing this film whether or not it has an relation to the book or to the actual historical events. πŸ˜‰

You know, at my house, a person absolutely cannot watch any tv or movie that presents the beheading of Mary Queen of Scots. Why, you ask? Because my husband will not stop reciting the Monty Python “Mary” skit. It kind of puts a damper on the tragedy of the moment. πŸ™‚

  2. Pixie – Hollywood-ization doesn’t bug me all that much as I expect it going into it. I *am* a little surprised that they’re changing something that I think is kind of key to the book. Though I shouldn’t be surprised.

KC – Indeed. πŸ™‚ And that is HILARIOUS.
